Résumé de l’action : In a disused classroom, Harry finds a mirror . « a magnificent mirror, as high as the ceiling , with an ornate gold frame, standing on two clawed feet ». In it, he sees his parents who are dead. He’s coming back into the room with his best friend, Ron. Both are wearing a cloak of invisibility.
- Part 1 (down to « It’s here- just here »)
- Les élèves s’ interrogent entre eux en utilisant les interrogatifs écrits au tableau: Who/When/ Where/Why/What for/ - Étude approfondie : « Find out words that suggest the children are afraid » (fear , « Let’s go back », hissed, a ghost ) « Find out words that create a dramatic atmosphere » (slowly tried, wander, dark, freezing, dead with cold) « What are the boys’reactions ? » – in the right order (Afraid / tired /fed up/ satisfied )
What is the role of the ghost and the suit of armour ? (They’re here to create suspense, to put the tension into relief, to underline the creepy aspect of the situation)
- Part 2 ( from « They pushed » to « No »).
« What can Harry see? » his dead relatives. « Show that he is excited to go and have a look in the mirror. » (verbs of movement – push, drop, run). « Can Ron see them too? » « When Harry is no longer in front of the mirror, can he see anything? » Why ? (Ron has come just in front)
- Part 3 (from « I’m alone » to « Quick!»)
« What can Ron see? » « Can Harry see this too? » « What does Ron suggest the mirror shows? » « Harry pushes Ron just as Ron took his place a few minutes before. What effect does the mirror have on the boys? » « What do you think the mirror really shows ? » (the real answer is given by Dumbledore, the head of Hogwarts (p.157) : « It shows us nothing more or less than the deepest, most desperate desire in our hearts. » « Can you explain the name of this mirror ? »
